Hey athletes, parents, mentors, and coaches! I have a challenge for you! Do something that scares you. Yes, you heard me! Do something that scares you.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. - Wayne Gretzky
A hockey quote, I know, but it still rings true. You will always miss 100% of the shots you don't take in life and on the court.
No, I do not mean jumping into a tub of snakes or something only your wildest dreams can think of. I’m talking about doing things that seem difficult but not impossible. Add a bit of effort and prioritizing into your schedule. Do things that will make you a healthier and better player all around.
Comfort is the way to complacency. Challenges will keep you laser-focused, on your goals. Say no to things that don’t align or attribute to your end goal or success. Changing your mentality will help you reach another level in your pursuits.
My challenge to you is:
Ages 4-9:
After each meal try to do an extra 10-15 minutes of ball-handling drills. That’s an extra 30-45 minutes a day!
Ages 10 and up:
Try to do an extra 30 minutes a day of extra exercises for an entire year. NO DAYS OFF. It may seem impossible but challenge yourself!
Doing something that seems impossible, scares you, or just plain hard, is the best way to improve. Teaching commitment to your challenges will go a LONG way in life.
Good luck,
Coach Ben
