Habits That Kill Progress

It may sound like the same song, but there are so many habits as parents we need to warn our kids about. Whether it is because we have done them ourselves, or witnessed the downfall of others. There are THREE big habits that we all want to avoid.
1. Procrastination
"I will get to it later," or "that can wait until tomorrow”, I’m sure we have all said this one too many times before in life. Hesitation and putting things off until later is a killer of progress. Set a time and dedicate that hour to what was decided. Putting things off until later, last-minute preparation, and always being rushed, is unproductive. This leads to mistakes being made, and results are minimal. Replace procrastination with Dates/Deadlines, stick to dates and deadlines at all costs.
Stick to workout schedules, stick to practice regimes, and to reading daily, eating properly, work and play with family.
2. Negotiations with self
Kobe said: "Once I set a plan, there are no negotiations."
Once things become difficult, it's too easy to develop the habit of talking yourself out of something, don't negotiate with self. Self will always buckle under pressure, set it and run through the situations with full force or resistance. Replace negotiations with resistance. Persistence will yield results.
3. NO PLAN
It sounds simple, but there must be a plan, too many times we ride by the seat of our pants, athletes do it all the time. "I'm going to take some shots today," but how many? Which spots? How many reps? How much time is needed? What are the counter moves?
All these things, if effectively planned, will yield qualitative and quantitative results. Replace a no-plan approach with a written plan approach.
Take these three habits and talk to your child about the importance of not letting these habits control their lives.
